이렇게 고친 이유: 주어 “The expression”은 단수이므로 동사는 were가 아니라 was여야 하며, 불필요한 수동태는 무엇이 그 효과를 냈는지를 가립니다. 무엇보다 “better”의 비교 대상이 없어 심사위원은 거의 예외 없이 “무엇과 비교해 좋아졌는가”를 묻습니다. 대조군을 명시하면 검증 불가능한 주장이 검증 가능한 진술로 바뀝니다.
